Shag on Cliff

This is a Shag perched on a wind blown cliff along the coast of the Shetland Islands. I love his color in this image. Shag on Cliff

Purple and Gold

While visiting the Shetland Islands we went to Jubilee Flower Garden, it was a riot of color with blooming flowers. It was the usual windy day making photographing flowers difficult and required fast shutter speeds to get sharp images. To create this image I stacked two images to provide a greater depth of field than could be achieved with a single image.Purple and Gold

Northern Gannet

Rarely seen near shore, I was excited to see this pelagic bird and capture its image. During breeding season the gannet comes to the islands cliffs to raise its young.Nothern Gannet

Sharing the Shore

This is an interesting image because it contains three different species of birds feeding along the shore on the Shetland Islands. In this image (L to R) a Redshank, a Dunlin, and a Red Knot.

Shag on Cliff

This Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis) is on a cliff located on Mousa, a small island off the east coast of the main Shetland Island. It is uninhabited and a wildlife reserve that can be accessed mid-April to mid-September by ferry.
